Summer Rookie Interlock

Updated Friday January 18, 2019 by Kanata Baseball Association.

In the Summer Rookie Interlock Program, KBA enters recreational teams into an interlock league within our Little League District.  Teams are formed from interested players who participated in the Spring Rookie House Program, with the number and types of teams determined by registration numbers and available coaches.

This program follows Little League age rules and is restricted to players born between Sept 1, 2010 and August 31, 2012 (specifically, the child will be 7 or 8 years old on August 31, 2019).

Players looking for a recreational summer program, with lower commitment and limited weekday travel are encouraged to register for the Summer Rookie House Program.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact James Moser.

Eligible Players  Born between Sept 1, 2010 and August 31, 2012
Registration Status  Opening early-June
Evaluation Process  None
Season  Summer (July - August)
Cost  TBD

What to Expect

Registration will open in early-June.  During the registration process, KBA will be actively recruiting coaches and negotiating entry into the interlock league; the number and types of teams which KBA will field is determined during that month.

Players will be placed on balanced teams in either the Nationals (B) or Canadians (A) division of the interlock team based on evaluation scores and coach feedback from the Spring Rookie House Program.  Players which we are not able to accommodate will be given the option to transfer to the Summer Rookie House Program.  All parents will be notified of status before the end of June.

The season begins July 2 with interlock games typically scheduled in that first week.  Teams play 12 regular season coach-pitch games against opponents from Little League Districts 2 and 6, including teams from Central Ottawa, Nepean, Orleans, and Carleton Place.  Games start at 6:00 pm and are generally held Monday to Thursday nights.  The schedule is defined and managed by a district representative.

Teams generally practice once per week held on Saturday or Sunday, at the coach's discretion.

League playdowns (playoffs) are held in late August.

Teams are strongly encouraged to participate in the Scott Tokessy Tournament held on the first weekend in August (Civic Holiday Weekend).

What Else You Should Know

  • While this is a recreational program, it is a significantly higher commitment than the Summer Rookie House Program.  Players are expected to attend most games and team events.  Typically teams travel to the far-west (Carleton Place) or far-east (Orleans) 4 to 5 times per season.  Coaches generally expect all players are present and ready for warm-up 30 minutes before game start.
  • All players are expected to bring a baseball glove and batting helmet and should wear a jock/jill and appropriate footwear.  Baseball pants are mandatory.  Only approved USABat baseball bats are allowed.
  • Friend requests are accepted during registration subject to the KBA policy
